caving-spelunking picCaving (spelunking) is a truly adventurous underground experience where you can explore a maze of subterranean caves right here in Victoria.

Participants are given a safety talk and a description of the unusual granite boulder cave formation, before exploring various parts of the cave system.

Once you’re in the cave of exploration you’ll find phosphorous ‘glow’ worms, cave crickets and other cave dwelling critters. For those afraid of spiders, don’t worry. There are no spiders in the cave (there’s nothing there for them to eat). Besides, you’ll be too busy exploring sections and navigating your way out.

This is truly an explorative experience that brings back child like fantasies of being an explorer like Indiana Jones. You will get muddy and wet. You’ll also be able to drink the natural spring water that flows underground.

If you’ve never been caving before you must take advantage of our experienced guides who will encourage and support you through the beauty deep down the earth. Its magnetism, undeniable.

Fun Facts about Caving / Spelunking

Caving—also occasionally known as spelunking and potholing is the recreational pastime of exploring wild (generally non-commercial) cave systems. In contrast, speleology is the scientific study of caves and the cave environment.

According to Wikipedia:

The challenges involved in the activity depend on the cave being visited, but often include the negotiation of pitches, squeezes, and water. Climbing or crawling is often necessary.

Caves have been explored out of necessity (for shelter from the elements or from enemies), out of curiosity or for mystical reasons for thousands of years. However, only in the last century or two has the activity developed into a sophisticated, athletic pastime. In recent decades, caving has changed considerably due to the availability of modern protective wear and equipment. It has recently come to be known as an "extreme sport" by some. Many of the skills involved in caving can also be put to use in mine exploration and urban exploration.
